Hi, everyone.
Wow! It's been an amazing week. Last Friday (2/29), I was on the Late Late Show performing Fields of Athenry from my CD which will be released later this week and is entitled Derek. I was overwhelmed by the positve response.
I leave tomorrow for the United States for the "If You're Irish..." tour with Frank McNamara, Deirdre Shannon and Cora Smyth. I'm excited about touring with these amazing artists and look forward to singing for thousands of new people in the US.
Please check back soon for highlights from the tour.

Derek Moloney fell in love with singing while still in primary school when he was chosen to sing a solo of “O Holy Night”. He decided to devote most of his spare time to singing and found a singing teacher. When he finished school, he headed to Dublin City and auditioned for National Chamber Choir, Ireland’s prestigious professional choir. He was asked to join the 17 member group and performed with them for several years. |

When he finished school, he headed to Dublin City and auditioned for National Chamber Choir, Ireland’s prestigious professional choir. In 2002, Derek was recognized nationally when he won the RTE Irish Television “Search For A Tenor” Competition. During the atteniton he gained from winning the contest, he held firmly to his vision for his singing career as a solo tenor and decided to release his first album as an independent artist. He was thrilled when “From This Day On”, which was released in March 2003 received a fantastic response. One year later, Derek, an enthusiastic rugby fan, decided to combine his love of singing with his love of the sport and released an album of rugby anthems in the form of “ Ireland, Ireland, Ireland”. The album struck a chord immediately with the Irish public and went to #1 on the classical charts. As a result, Derek was invited to sing for the Irish Rugby Team in Lansdowne Road.
Also in March 2004, Derek recorded a song for the commemorative James Joyce Album by RTE. This song also went to #1 on the classical charts giving Derek the distinction of being the first person ever to have two number ones on the Irish charts in such a short time as an independent artist. Derek spent much of 2005 singing at international rugby matches and at the Munster rugby games. Derek was asked to sing for the Irish President, Mary McAleese.
In 2006, he met acclaimed composer and arranger, Frank McNamara who was impressed with Derek’s talent and signed him to his record label, Ambush Records. In October 2006, began his first US tour at the Live On Stage Showcase in Nashville, Tennessee. Derek 's evening of classical, pop and Irish songs was met with great enthusiasm and accolades.
In December 2006, Derek appeared in a performance of "Christmas at the NAC” with the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, Canada. In March 2007, he starred with Cora Smyth and Deirdre Shannon in Frank McNamara’s latest production, “If You’re Irish…”.
